Books of Wonder Field Trip!!!

The library field trip to Books of Wonder on November 10th will be even cooler than we thought! In addition to Kristin Cashore and Suzanne Collins, Libba Bray, Michael Grant, Scott Westerfeld and Justine Larbalestier will also be there!!! AND this will be Suzanne Collins' ONLY appearance this fall!!!

Here's a sampling of the authors' books. Click on any of them to go to the BCCLS catalog:

Space is limited, so if you want to go, please register right away (I already have some of your names. If you already emailed me, don't worry, you're signed-up!).

In order to attend, you must register AND fill out a Permission Slip.

This event is FREE, but please keep in mind that if you want to have anything signed, you must buy one book at the bookstore for EVERY book you want signed. In other words, if you already own a copy of The Hunger Games, you can bring your own copy to the event, but you must buy another book at the store - it can be any book you want - it doesn't have to be The Hunger Games, or by any of the author's speaking.

With touching authenticity, this story absolutely, truly relates to teens from all walks of life. Sherman Alexie writes books for teens and adults, and his personal experiences growing up provided the inspiration for this story.

The Schwa Was Here

The writing is accessible to reluctant readers and mature readers alike, and the prolific Shusterman's titles cover a wide range of interest for all ages. This story and its companion, Antsy Does Time, are set in New York City.

Poe and Stoker Visit the Library; NYC Trip; The Rug is Back!

On Saturday, October 24th Edgar Allen Poe and Bram Stoker visited the library!

Okay, they were really actors Tom Worsdale and James Dyne, but they did such a great job reenacting Poe and Stoker, it was like they were really here! Thanks to everyone who attended this great program!

In other news, the library is taking a field trip to New York City on Tuesday, November 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (a bus will take us to and from the event)!!! We'll be visiting Books of Wonder to see Suzanne Collins and Kristin Cashore (click on the books below to get to the library catalog).

I'll have more details soon. Space is limited, so if you would like to register, please let me know right away.

Last, but not least... the rug is back in the Teen Area (special thanks to Daniel and his mom for setting it up)!!! Come check it out!

Voki and Teen Read Week

I found a great site this weekend, Voki! It allows you to make your own speaking avatar, using your own voice! Here's mine - I was even able to use a picture of the teen area as my background image!

I also want to remind you that it's TEEN READ WEEK! To celebrate, we'll be making Book Tees at 7:00 p.m. Just bring a blank, light colored t-shirt, we'll provide the rest! Hope to see you there!

The Forest of Hands and Teeth

Actors Tom Worsdale and James Dyne will bring Poe and Stoker together for an hour of conversation and dramatic readings.
Beautifully costumed and richly set, these masters of the macabre talk about their ives, loves, disappointments and nightmares. Their readings include The Raven, The Tell Tale Heart, and Dracula.

TAG Meetings!!!

Isabelle the Beagle Models Summer Reading Tee; Teen Playways Have Arrived!

On Monday, June 30th, we had our "Design Your Own T-Shirt" program. Everyone's shirt came out great! When I brought mine home, I couldn't resist putting it on my beagle Isabelle!

In other news, Teen Playaways have arrived!!!

They are located in the Teen Area, right next to the other teen audio books.

So what are Playaways? They are basically like little MP3 players. Each one comes fully loaded with an audiobook. To use it, all you need are your own pair of headphones - then press play!

Our collection is small right now, but we'll be adding to it every month. Come check it out!

Stephenie Meyer News

Exciting things are in the works for all you Stephenie Meyer fans! Her new book "Breaking Dawn" will be released at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 2nd! Members of our Teen Advisory Group suggested we have a Twilight party to celebrate the release and I am all for it! Want to help out or attend? Contact Emily!

In Twilight Movie news, the Twilight Lexicon has posted that additional cast members have been confirmed!
